At the moment, Bedford Borough Council predominantly operates a three tier system of education, although a two tier scheme applies in some places.
Moving on from a range of preschools and nurseries in the area, children begin their education at a lower or primary school and then currently transfer to a middle school at the end of Year 4. They then join an upper school at the end of Year 8 where they are able to remain through to the end of sixth form.
The Borough will move to the more conventional two-tier system in September 2017. As a result, teachers in Bedford have a unique opportunity to play a role in this important transition.
The two tier system will also mean more growth opportunities for schools and more career options for teachers. It’s an exciting time for the town and its schools.
