Despite being a bustling and thriving town, Bedford has many spaces for you to relax and unwind.
The John Bunyan Boat offers trips along the river, while other relaxing options include Bedford Castle Mount and Embankment Gardens. Here, the remains of the Saxon Castle Mound offer visitors superb views of the River Great Ouse and the Embankment. Stroll through the Victorian Gardens and admire the beautiful display of colourful flowers.
Russell Park and Mill Meadows are also charming outdoor spaces, with access to the attractive Victorian suspension bridge which crosses the river.
The more adventurous can even explore Bedford’s Victorian embankment by canoe or paddle board, with a guided trip along the Great Ouse.
For cyclists the Bedford Green Wheel is an ongoing project, building on the existing network of traffic- free paths and quiet routes for cyclists and walkers. This network links parks, nature reserves, countryside and homes with ‘spokes’ into the town centre.
